24-Month Rule

The 24-Month Rule under the Swedish Agency Work Act is a regulatory framework that strengthens consultant worker protection in Sweden, effective from October 1, 2022. The rule mandates that companies using staffing agencies must either offer permanent employment or provide two months' salary compensation to consultants who have worked at the same operational unit for 24 months within a 36-month period. The rule requires companies to track how long consultants work for them and evaluate if their staffing agencies qualify under the law. Companies must check things like whether consultants do different work than regular employees, if the staffing agency supervises them, and if the work is clearly defined. By following the 24-Month Rule, companies can treat consultants fairly and avoid penalties, while consultants get better job protection.
