On May 25, 2018, the new EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enters into force and replaces the Swedish Personal Data Act PUL with stricter rules for handling personal data. The new Act applies, among other things, to personal data relating to customers, staff and partners. A company that does not comply with the rules may be forced to pay a fee of either 4% of the turnover or EUR 20 million.
